Due to poor economic conditions and locally available
of bamboos in the local the farmers started keeping
grains in the bamboo woven structure know as Dholangi.
Banti has innovative technique for keeping the grains
in Dholangi. His innovatives has saved 20-25% reduction
in loss of grain. As Bastar farmers are living in Kaccha
House and open conditions with unhygienic conditions unfavorable for human health and having favourable condition for growth of stored grain pest. In tribal area farmers are
keeping grains in one room only constructed for storing grains in open conditions covered with paddy straws or dried neem leaves or in gunny bags. As Dholangi was used by the farmers without treatment Banti has an innovative
ideas for modification is storing grains in “Dholnagi” at village level. He started coating “Dholangi” with the mixture of mud + cow dung at the ratio of 1:2 thoroughly mixed and
giving thick coating to whole structure from inside & outside and dried for 2 days. After 2 days fumigation of dried neem leaves is done for 5 minutes & the structure is installed in
a or a corner of a room i.e. place dark room which is not used frequently or in a daily use.The dholangi is fixed on the raised bed made up about 6 inches. The seeds are kept in
the bamboo structure and covered with dried neem leaves. After covering the top with neem leaves again the mixture of same proportion of cowdung mud in applied to covered the roof top of “Dholangi”.
The seeds are stored for one year and dholangi having a capacity of storing 5 qt of seeds at a time. |
